Going solar is one of the smartest investments a Seattle homeowner can make right now. Energy bills are rising, rebates have never been richer, and modern solar panels work beautifully in the Pacific Northwest climate cloudy reputation and all.
But here’s the thing most solar guides don’t tell you: the quality of your installation matters just as much as the quality of your panels. Choose the wrong solar installers in Seattle, and even the best equipment underperforms, leaks, or creates code violations that haunt you at resale.
That’s exactly why NABCEP certification exists and exactly why it should be the first thing you look for when comparing solar installation companies in Seattle. At Dadz, our team holds the NABCEP PVA (Photovoltaic Associate) credential, and we bring over 30 years of combined electrical and renewable energy experience to every solar panel installation we complete across Snohomish and King Counties.

NABCEP stands for the North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners. It’s the leading independent certification body for solar energy professionals in North America, and its credentials are widely recognized as the gold standard of the industry. Think of it the way you think of a medical board certification or a CPA license it’s how you know the professional you’re hiring has actually proven their knowledge, not just printed a brochure.
What NABCEP Certification Actually Requires
To earn NABCEP credentials, solar professionals must complete at least 58 hours of approved advanced training, pass a rigorous proctored examination, document real-world hands-on experience in PV system design and installation, and complete continuing education every three years to maintain active certification. It’s not a weekend course, not self-reported. It’s independently verified competence and that’s exactly what you want from the person climbing onto your roof and wiring your home’s electrical system.
As of 2025, over 18,000 solar professionals have earned one of NABCEP’s certifications from the PV Associate credential through the full PV Installation Professional (PVIP) Board Certification, which covers design, installation, commissioning, and maintenance. The PVIP is specifically accredited under ISO/IEC 17024:2012 the international standard for personnel certification bodies. That’s not a small thing. It means the certification meets the same global rigor standards used to certify professionals in fields like aviation and healthcare.
“Our master electricians pour our expertise into every solar panel installation and cutting-edge solar power storage wall we build. Expect precise, clean, and sustainable energy solutions, ensuring your home thrives with efficiency and resilience.

It’s easy to see “certified” and assume it’s marketing language. It isn’t at least not with NABCEP. Here’s what that credential actually means for you as a homeowner choosing between solar installers in Seattle.
A certified installer doesn’t just pick a panel count and hand you a price. They perform a proper site assessment, calculate your home’s actual energy consumption, evaluate your roof’s orientation and shading conditions, and size the system to your specific needs. In Seattle’s latitude (around 47°N), roof pitch and panel angle matter more than most homeowners realize. A system designed correctly from day one produces significantly more energy over its lifetime than one sized from a rule-of-thumb estimate.
Washington State requires all solar installations to be permitted and inspected. NABCEP-certified professionals know the National Electrical Code (NEC) cold they train on it specifically as part of certification. Non-certified installers frequently make wiring errors that fail inspection, delay interconnection approval with your utility, or worse, create fire hazards that aren’t caught until something goes wrong years later. A certified team gets it right the first time.
Important: Because Dadz is also a fully licensed electrical contractor (Electrical Lic. #DADZEES824B4), we handle the complete electrical side of your solar project in-house including any required panel upgrade to support your new system. Most solar-only companies subcontract that work. We don’t.
According to a 2025 analysis of negative solar reviews across public platforms, improper roof penetrations are one of the leading causes of homeowner complaints including leaks that develop months after installation. NABCEP certification covers rooftop work standards because an improperly flashed or sealed penetration can void your roof warranty and cause water damage that takes years to surface. Certified professionals know exactly how to make watertight, structurally sound penetrations on every roof type common in the Pacific Northwest.
Dadz installs trusted, industry-leading brands including SolarEdge, Enphase, and EcoFlow, as well as Tesla Powerwall battery systems. A NABCEP-certified installer knows how to match inverter technology to panel type, properly configure monitoring systems, and integrate battery backup cleanly with your grid connection. These aren’t details you discover during the install they’re planned from the design phase.
NABCEP-certified professionals are held to a code of ethics and are registered in NABCEP’s public directory. If a certified installer causes damage or performs substandard work, there is an accountability mechanism something that simply doesn’t exist with an uncertified crew. You can verify any installer’s NABCEP status directly at nabcep.org before signing anything.

One of the most compelling reasons to go solar right now is the stacking of incentives available to Seattle-area homeowners. But here’s something many people don’t know: certain rebate programs and financing options explicitly prefer or require certified installers. A certified team not only knows how to qualify your project they help you maximize every dollar available.
The federal ITC allows you to claim 30% of your total solar installation cost as a credit against your federal income taxes. For a $20,000 system, that’s $6,000 back. The credit applies to equipment, installation labor, and even battery storage if installed at the same time. There’s no cap on the credit amount, and it applies in full for systems installed through 2032.
Washington State exempts solar energy systems from sales tax, a benefit that runs through 2029. On a typical residential installation, this saves homeowners $1,500–$2,500 depending on system size and equipment costs.
Both Seattle City Light and Puget Sound Energy (PSE) offer net metering programs, which credit you for excess electricity your panels send back to the grid. In practical terms, this means the energy you generate on sunny summer days offsets your winter bills turning Seattle’s seasonal variation into an asset rather than a limitation.
PSE customers may also be eligible for additional rebates on solar and battery storage systems. As a registered PSE Trade Ally, Dadz is familiar with current program requirements and helps ensure your system qualifies before installation begins.
“The remaining 10% of homeowners who aren’t satisfied with solar often cite installer competency and project quality as primary concerns. NABCEP certification directly addresses these issues by ensuring certified professionals have demonstrated extensive knowledge and hands-on experience.”

The homeowners who get the most from solar don’t think of it as just a panel purchase. They think of it as a system upgrade for their entire home’s energy profile. When your solar installation is planned by a team that also understands your home’s electrical backbone, the result is far more powerful than panels alone.
At Dadz, because we’re both NABCEP certified solar installers and a full-service licensed electrical contractor, we can design your solar project in the context of your entire home:
No other company in the greater North Seattle area offers this complete combination of NABCEP-certified solar installation and full in-house electrical services under one roof. That’s not a marketing claim it’s a practical advantage for homeowners who want one accountable team for the whole job.
Whether you’re considering Dadz or comparing several solar companies, here are the questions every homeowner should ask before signing a contract:
Pro Tip: Get at least two quotes, and make sure both quotes cover the same scope system size (kW), brand of panels and inverter, battery backup inclusion, permitting fees, and interconnection. Large price differences almost always reflect differences in scope, equipment quality. The lowest bid is rarely the best value on a 25-year asset.

NABCEP certification means the installer has passed rigorous independent exams, completed at least 58 hours of advanced training, documented real-world project experience, and commits to ongoing continuing education. It’s the solar industry’s equivalent of a professional board certification independently verified, not self-reported.
Absolutely and this is one of the most common misconceptions about Pacific Northwest solar. Modern panels generate electricity from diffused sunlight, not just direct sunshine. Seattle receives more annual sun hours than Germany, which leads all of Europe in solar adoption. A properly sized system by a certified installer accounts for Seattle’s specific climate and maximizes year-round output.
Seattle-area homeowners can currently access: the 30% federal Investment Tax Credit (ITC), Washington State’s sales tax exemption on solar equipment (through 2029), net metering credits through Seattle City Light and PSE, and additional PSE rebates for qualifying systems. A certified local installer helps you identify and qualify for every available incentive before you sign a contract.
The physical installation typically takes one to three days depending on system size. The full process including site assessment, system design, permit application, installation, and utility interconnection approval typically spans four to eight weeks. Dadz manages every step on your behalf, keeping you informed throughout.

Not always but often, yes. Homes with 100-amp panels or older main breakers may need an upgrade to safely support a solar array and battery system. Because Dadz handles both electrical panel work and solar installation in-house, we assess this during your free consultation and include any necessary panel upgrade in your project scope. No subcontractors, no surprises.
Yes, and we strongly recommend it for Seattle homeowners who want true energy independence during windstorm outages. Dadz installs Tesla Powerwall and EcoFlow battery storage systems alongside solar. When installed together, you qualify for the 30% federal tax credit on the battery cost as well. Our solar battery backup page covers the options in detail.
Going solar is a 25-year decision. The panels themselves might last 30 years or more. The company you hire for installation, however, needs to be around and accountable for that entire period. NABCEP certification, a Washington electrical license, and a local presence aren’t nice-to-haves. They’re the baseline for an installation you can trust.
Dadz has served Seattle, Lynnwood, Bellevue, Everett, Shoreline, Renton, Kenmore, Kirkland, Woodinville, and surrounding communities for over 30 years. We’re not a national solar franchise. We’re a family-run team that will be here long after your panels are up for repairs, expansions, and anything else your system needs down the road.
